Barb Edson, RN, MBA, MHA
Senior Director of Clinical Quality

Barb Edson has been the Sr. Director of Clinical Quality at HRET since Jan., 2011. An RN with extensive experience in pediatric nursing and in hospital management and administration, Ms. Edson formerly worked at the North Carolina Center for Hospital Quality and Patient Safety. There, she led the statewide implementation of the AHRQ-funded CUSP: CLABSI project as well as other patient safety collaboratives. Those included efforts that improved medication reconciliation, SCIP process measures, heart failure process measures, and reduced CLABSI rates. Ms. Edson is a Master TeamSTEPPS trainer, has taught hospitals “just culture” concepts to strengthen a culture of safety, and currently functions as the Project Director for the AHRQ-funded CUSP: CAUTI initiative. She has a BSN from Marquette University, an MBA/MHA from Pfeiffer University, and has completed Patient Safety Officer training at IHI and obtained Just Culture Certification from Outcome Engineering.
